SBCS has increased its distributions of healthy food for families in need to 12 times a month at sites throughout Chula Vista.
Currently scheduled days, times and locations are every:
- Every Tuesday, 2 – 4 p.m., Loma Verde Recreation Center – 1420 Loma Lane, Chula Vista, CA 91911
- Every Wednesday, 2 – 4 p.m., Loma Verde Recreation Center – 1420 Loma Lane, Chula Vista, CA 91911
- Every Thursday, 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., Castle Park Elementary School – 25 Emerson St., Chula Vista, CA 91911
Food distribution has been modified to drive-thru format as a special precaution as we do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19. For the safety of our community and staff, individuals and families visiting SBCS’ food distribution events must arrive in cars and wear masks. Food will be placed directly in vehicle trunks.
Over the last six months, an average of 4,000 individuals per week have driven through to receive bags of healthy food at school sites where distributions are hosted. SBCS staff and volunteers assemble and pass out the grocery bags in addition to covering other important logistics of the process. Chula Vista police officers and city councilmembers as well as members of the SBCS Board of Directors also regularly lend a hand.
One recipient said: “Thank you so much. Everything was so easy for us and we were able to get our food just by driving through. The food was also things we could use. We are so thankful.”
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect the health and income of local families, SBCS volunteers are critical to ensuring that San Diegans in need have access to healthy food.
If you are looking for a way to give back during this difficult and uncertain time for many, consider volunteering to package and distribute food at one of our three weekly food distributions.
