SBCS annual events offer our community an opportunity to make a financial investment in their community while enjoying activities!
Held annually in October, this event brings together residents; business and civic leaders for a fun evening – silent auction, live action, fashion show and entertainment – all proceeds benefit the children of Casas Seguras and Mi Escuelita.
Domestic violence is frightening, abusive and sometimes fatal. The damange is both physcial and emotion for the victims, however, for young children, studies show that the affects are both significant and far-reaching. Experiencing abuse – whether as a direct victim or as an observer – has a profound affect on the developing brain of a child. Self-esteem, the ability to learn, sleep patterns and physical health are all affected and begin a chain reaction that can change the course of the rest of a child’s life. For this reason, SBCS established Mi Escuelita Therapeutic Preschool and Casas Seguras programs to not only offer intervention and shelter, but prevention to stop the cycle of violence.
Change Their Lives benefits children and families affected by family violence . With today’s economic crisis, South Bay Community Services is assisting more children, youth and families, and our domestic violence calls have increased.Your participation helps SBCS provide:
Mi Escuelita Therapeutic Preschool
The only one in Southern California, special care for children affected by abuse and domestic violence
Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT)
The only 24/7 response in team in San Diego County, we responded to 1,484 emergency 911 calls with local police officers. On these calls, 1,638 children were affected and provided assistance.
Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing
More than 100 families provided emergency and transitional housing. 100% of existing transitional housing families transitioned into affordable, permanent housing.
Each year, the hardships that prevent many of our South Bay families from having enough food, proper clothing or school supplies, also prevent them from having many of the joys of the holidays. Together with community members, organizations, and businesses, SBCS is able to make sure the wishes hundreds of children, youth and family members come true!
There is no small donation. Collectively, we can bring holiday cheer to families in need. There are various ways to help:
Adopt a Family
Help out a child in need or adopt a struggling family. South Bay Community Services Holiday Giving program helps you “adopt” a family or child for the holidays by helping their holiday wishes come true.
Unwrapped Holiday Gifts
Donate a new, unwrapped gift for a child or teen, and we will match the gift with an appropriate recipient. Families are in need of blankets, linens, jackets, shoes and pajamas in various sizes. Toys, of course, are also accepted.
Visit current drop off locations:
*As an added bonus, The Star-News and Regal Cinemas will offer all those who donate a toy a chance to win free movie passes at participating locations only. See businesses for more information.
Holiday Meals & Food Drives
The need for ongoing and emergency food supplies is currently out pacing donations. In most need are non-perishable food such as beans, canned goods, boxed meals, pasta, peanut butter, rice and instant potatoes.
Host a Toy, Food or Blanket Drive:
We will provide you with a holiday bin and materials and provide pick up.
