SBCS’ innovative and evidence-based programs respond to the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. We ensure that the youngest victims of violence and abuse have the support they need to heal and have a solid foundation for a better tomorrow.

With support from community and partnership through Change Their Lives, SBCS provides emergency and transitional shelters, counseling, job readiness and a therapeutic preschool that has been proven to change the academic trajectory of our little ones.

Violence and the threat of violence in the home impacts a whole family especially children and youth. Each year, hundreds of families seek our help or need shelter. Domestic violence impacts children’s development, education, and overall health.

Beneficiary programs include:

Mi Escuelita Therapeutic Preschool - The only school of its kind in Southern California which provides specialized care for children affected by abuse and domestic violence to break the cycle of violence, help children heal and begin the right path for school.

SBCS Family Response Team - The only 24/7 emergency response team in San Diego County. Last year, SBCS responded to 859 domestic violence calls with law enforcement in Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach and South San Diego.

Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing – The only confidential domestic violence shelter in South San Diego County, Casas Seguras keeps whole families intact when they are escaping domestic violence and need shelter, counseling, job readiness, and support to create self-sufficient futures.
